Hong Kong Must Embrace Diversity to Regain Financial Edge – Business Director Kavi Harilela

As an international financial center, Hong Kong has long been known for its diversity and inclusiveness. However, in recent years, with the changes in the global economic environment and the impact of geopolitics, Hong Kong's financial vitality has faced challenges. To restore its financial momentum, Hong Kong needs to truly embrace diversity and attract talent and capital from around the world. This not only includes traditional financial services, but should also be expanded to emerging fields such as financial technology and green finance. At the same time, the government needs to formulate more open and flexible policies to create an environment conducive to innovation and competition. Only in this way can Hong Kong regain its financial vitality and consolidate its position as a global financial center.

As our city navigates an increasingly complex global landscape, I believe that true financial dynamism can only be restored if we fully embrace diversity. While Hong Kong has long been a financial powerhouse, our focus has remained too narrow, limiting opportunities for engagement with emerging markets and diverse talent. By broadening our perspective, we can attract new investment and fresh ideas that will future-proof our economy.

However, this shift comes with challenges. Implementing inclusive policies requires overcoming bureaucratic hurdles, addressing resistance to change, and ensuring that regulatory frameworks support rather than stifle innovation. Yet, if we take bold steps now, we can reposition Hong Kong as a truly global financial hub, ready for the next era of growth.
